I’ve been working for a while with CT-based band Hanging Hills on their debut full-length. The results have been really exciting– these guys are great players, great songwriters, and hard workers. They’re releasing the record on June 10th, you can order it here. They’ve also announced a summer tour, which includes a Daytrotter Session in IL on June 24th. Full list of tour dates and two tracks from their record streaming below.

New Projects!
Happy to announce the completion of a couple really awesome projects and the start to some new equally awesome ones! I just sent off two records to be mastered, full-lengths by Hanging Hills and Isadora. I produced, recorded and mixed these albums front to back, and I couldn’t be more excited for their release. Stay tuned for updates on those, but scope the advance single I did for the Hanging Hills record below:
I recently started working on an EP with singer-songwriter Sasha Klare-Ayvazian and producer/multi-instrumentalist Kush Mody. It’s super eclectic and influenced heavily by the new Beck record. I’ll also be doing some mix work for Kush’s upcoming solo record.
This May I’ll also be producing and recording a record by Aaron ‘n Brooke, a singer-songwriter duo from Brooklyn NY. Catching a very vintage, organic vibe from these guys that I’m excited to get to tape … shooting for She and Him meets Grizzly Bear meets something weirder. Though I have most of May booked up at this point, there’s still some time open at the studio in June, so get at me! Here’s to warmer weather!
Brothertiger In-Studios
I had a great time on tour with Brothertiger this month– SXSW was a lot of fun, as always. We did two live performances in two fantastic studios over the course of the tour; first at Dollhouse Productions in Savannah, GA during the Savannah Stopover Festival and secondly at Blue Rock Studio in Austin, TX during SXSW.
Check out both these spots (let’s do a record at either place? Call me), they’re incredibly beautiful studios run by the nicest people you ever met in your life. Can’t wait to get back on tour and see more awesome parts of the country! Enjoy.
Hanging Hills Release Single
I’ve been working for the last few months with CT-based band Hanging Hills on their debut full-length record The Great Divide, due out this spring. They recently released the first single from the album, “Things I Long to Be.” Stream below, and watch a live acoustic performance of “Island,” another cut off the new record.
Brothertiger at SXSW
Excited to hit the road with Brothertiger next month to head down to Austin TX and back. We’re doing some awesome shows along the way, including a couple official SXSW showcases, the Savannah Stopover Festival, and a live webcast at the amazing Blue Rock Studio. Hope to see a familiar face or two in Austin– follow me on Twitter as well as Brothertiger for updates!
Finishing up some mixes for Isadora and Hanging Hills before I head off. It’s shaping up to be a very busy spring!
The Rooks Release Single, Begin Pianos Residency
The Rooks just released the single we did together this month, to stream exclusively through The Deli online. Check out the write-up here and listen to the track below.
We tracked the song mostly live at Fortune. They laid into this one really hard– the track is definitely indicative of where the band is going to take their new material (i.e. dirtier, danker, more progressive, more lyrical).
The Rooks have a month-long residency at Pianos starting tonight. I’m pretty sure tonight’s sold out, but give ’em a scope every Thursday for the rest of January. Dig.
Brothertiger Lambkini Session
Brothertiger recently did an in-studio video with Lambkini at Galuminumfoil in Brooklyn. We did two songs, “In Mind” and “You’re Afraid.” This was only the second or third time I’ve ever played with the band, but we had some fun. Enjoy.
Holy Mackerel, 2014!
I’m putting the finishing touches on the new record from New London garage/punk trio Straight to VHS. It’s sounding ballsy, big, and ruthless. This album doesn’t let up– 12 tracks of high-energy rocket sauce.
Over the next few months things at the studio are blasting off into the stratosphere. I’m excited to welcome The Rooks back to the studio to record and mix a new single. From what I’ve heard of the pre-production demos, the track shows what these guys are up to next, combining indie rock sensibilities and dank soul music into something entirely their own.
In addition, I’m producing, engineering, and mixing full-length records by two other incredible bands. The first is a group from Mansfield, CT called Hanging Hills. They’ve mastered a great vibe and write a mean song– something akin to Fleet Foxes meets the Walkmen meets Band of Horses.
The second is an excellent band from Brooklyn, NY called Isadora. These guys are consummate musicians and songwriters, putting out what they call “morbid pop,” or rock-with-intrigue characteristic of Radiohead. It’s immaculately constructed, mind-blowing rock music, and I can’t wait to get my mitts on it this winter.
As if all that weren’t enough, Shake the Baron is working on a new EP, having just parted ways with our label. The direction is much more aggressive than our previous records, and we’ll be entirely self-producing this one. Brothertiger is also coordinating the production of a new EP– stay tuned for updates!
New Record by Straight to VHS on the Horizon
I’ve had the pleasure of working with New London favorites Straight to VHS on their new record. Their last record, Rewinder, swept the 2013 Whalie Awards, earning them Best Indie Rock Record, Best Indie Rock Performance, and Pop/Rock Album of the Year. Needless to say, I’m jazzed about working with them on their upcoming full-length.
We recently finished up tracking and I’m moving on to the mix. Amped about the ballsiness … Scott Pilgrim soundtrack with sharper teeth, biting into Green Day while looking menacingly over at Jay Reatard’s gravestone … if that makes sense.
The Pilgrims Release BU$$
I’m super pumped about the most recent release from Vermont-based rock band The Pilgrims, entitled BU$$. I recorded and mixed the album this past Spring at Fortune Recording Studio. These guys are, in addition to being the most friendly beer-guzzlers you ever guzzled with, incredible musicians and fantastic songwriters. We did all the basic tracking live with minimal overdubs. I don’t think I’ll ever track a rock band differently– it’s the best way to get the energy across if the songs are good and the band is tight. Buy the record, scope a show if you’re able, you definitely won’t be disappointed.
