New Location!

It’s been a great year folks!  So I’ve decided to open my own project studio: 2,000 sq ft of brick and maple located in the Arts and Innovation District of Holyoke, MA.

Construction and setup are almost complete.  The studio features ample live room space including a 15×15 iso booth; a revamped Pro Tools rig complete with Apogee Symphony I/O, Dangerous Monitor ST and Hearback System; preamps by Neve, API, Universal Audio and Focusrite; microphones by Neumann, Josephson, AEA, Mojave and Shure; and a plethora of instruments, amps and inspiring tonal tools.

I’ll still be working at other studios and will remain for hire as a freelancer, but the Holyoke space will serve as my new home base.  More information coming soon, but please feel to drop me a line in the meantime with any questions!

WATSKY Announces New Album, Releases Single

I’ve been working for the last six months on the new WATKSY record, x INFINITY. I started on it all the way back during demos and pre-production, and then I recorded and mixed the album.  It was a massive undertaking, and I had my hands on it from start to finish.  The record was produced by my longtime friend and collaborator Kush Mody. We went for something way grittier, epic, and dark on this record and hopefully that comes across!

The album release date has been announced for August 19th.  The first single, “Tiny Glowing Screens Part 3,” has been released with a music video on YouTube.  Watch below and keep an eye out for the album’s release in August as well as Fall tour dates.

Billy Dean & The Honor Roll Release Live Session

I had a great time at Northfire Recording tracking and mixing a live session for Billy Dean & The Honor Roll.  These guys are insanely talented musicians, and Billy is an incredible vocalist and lyricist.  Free download and write-up on the session here from Live Music Daily, and a track from our session streaming below:

Right now I’m finishing up the last of five weeks working with rapper George Watsky on his new record. It’s been a massive undertaking, complete with sweeping orchestral arrangements and awesome special guests. Stay tuned for more on that! Heading back to MA from LA tomorrow!

Fall Releases!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredible artists over the Spring and Summer, and a few of those records have dropped this Fall.

Wise Old Moon‘s sophomore record, Don’t Take Off, is out today on iTunes and Spotify. I co-produced, recorded, and mixed the record.

The debut full-length from Western MA-based guitarist and singer-songwriter Ryan Hommel is also available currently, both on iTunes and Spotify. The album was recorded between Northfire Recording Studio and Blackbird in Nashville. Ryan and I mixed the record at Northfire on the Neve.

CT-based duo The Advantagers have a new EP out, which is currently available to stream on Soundcloud. I recorded and mixed the track “Sister” and did mastering on the EP.

I recorded and mixed an LP by the fluid music collective Secret Pint this summer as well, which is available for streaming and download via Bandcamp.

A few more releases I’ve worked on are due out this Winter, including albums from Mother Moses, Hanging Hills, Otter, SLOOF, Bunk, Straight to VHS, and Arc City Angels. It’s been an exciting time out here in Western MA! Looking forward to more good times to come.

Anderson .Paak Featured on Dr. Dre’s New Album

Last summer I had the pleasure of mixing Creature Comforts and a Collection of Songs by Kush Mody, which heavily features the work of LA-based singer/rapper/producer/ songwriter Anderson .Paak. After finally meeting him at my home studio this Fall, I was particularly impressed (though not in the least bit surprised), to hear that he is a featured artist on Dr. Dre‘s upcoming record, Compton.

There is no one more deserving or prepared– dude is insanely talented. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for this incredible artist! Read more about Anderson .Paak via this article in The Fader, and scope the shoutout from Questlove! Listen below to “New Days” from Creature Comforts and a Collection of Songs.

Petting Zoo Release Debut LP “Good Evening”

I had the pleasure of working with MA-based band Petting Zoo on their debut LP “Good Evening.”  We tracked basics at Northfire Recording and finished the record at my home studio. The album is currently released on iTunes, Spotify and Bandcamp. These guys are awesome– I was fortunate enough to catch them early on in their career, and I can’t wait to see where they go next!  This stuff is like early Talking Heads intermingled with Tame Impala and Radiohead.  Psych-rock at its best, with no frills and no bullsh.  Listen below and look out for this crew touring the Northeast this late summer and fall.

SHAZAM! Spring Edition

Holy moly what a Spring/Summer coming up! In addition to thawing my frozen bones, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing musicians recently. Get psyched for Spring and Summer releases that I’m finishing up from Hanging Hills, Orders, Wise Old Moon, Creature From Dell Pond, Sloof, Petting Zoo, and Mother Moses to name a few.

I’ve been tracking out of two absolutely beautiful studios out here in Western MA and mixing out of my newly revamped home studio. Northfire Recording is located in Amherst, MA and boasts an absolutely beautiful 1970s era Neve 5316 console. Rotary Records is in West Springfield, MA and has some of the best acoustics I’ve ever heard and a fantastic collection of new and vintage amps and instruments.

Drop me a line for more info– I couldn’t be happier with the sounds I’ve been getting out here in Western MA!

Kush Mody Releases Creature Comforts

I’ve been working with producer and multi-instrumentalist Kush Mody on his solo debut, entitled Creature Comforts and a Collection of Songs. I mixed the album, which features artists including Nigel Hall, Anderson .Paak, and George Watsky. Stream the track “New Days” and watch the video for “Freight Train” below. The album is out on Steel Wool Media, and you can pick it up on iTunes here.

Location Switch!

I’m excited to report that I’ve relocated to Western Massachusetts (my hometown hood) where I’ll continue to produce and engineer new music. I’m renting a beautiful house on the CT river outside Northampton, where I plan to host and work with as many new artists as possible! I’ll continue to work out of Fortune Recording Studio in New London CT, but I’ll also be booking sessions in Western MA at some beautiful facilities in this neck of the woods (more on that soon!). Drop me a line to set up a new project, I’m currently scheduling for the fall and beyond.

I’m finishing work on not one, not two, but three new full-length records this summer that I’m excited to announce soon! Not least of which is the debut record from Kush Mody; scope the second single from the record below, featuring George Watsky:
